No. The amount of THC (the compound that makes you high) is so low in hemp that it cannot make you high. The CBD found in hemp actually blocks the effectiveness of THC.
No. It is legal to grow, buy and sell hemp in New Zealand for human consumption. It is legal to grow 12 varieties of industrial hemp in New Zealand you just need a licence.
Both hemp and marijuana are from the Cannabis sativa family of plants but are different varieties. Just like you have different breeds of dogs that are very different, cannabis is the same. Hemp is completely different from marijuana in its appearance, chemical makeup, cultivation methods, and its applications.
Marijuana, also known as weed, is used for its psychoactive flowering buds and comes from cannabis varieties that are grown for high THC content.
Hemp refers to varieties of Cannabis that are grown for the use of their seeds, fibre and hurd which can be used for food, clothing, construction materials as so on.

Hemp requires little fertiliser and pesticides, and grows well almost everywhere. Hemp also absorbs a lot CO2 from the air!
This makes growing hemp cheaper and easier and much more environmentally friendly.
Hemp replenishes soil. It puts down deep roots, which is good for the soil, and when the leaves drop off the hemp plant, minerals and nitrogen are returned to the soil.
Fabric made out of hemp may not be as soft as cotton but it is much stronger and gets softer over time.
It is also way better for the environment. Cultivating hemp doesn’t require much water, fertiliser or pesticides as is beneficial for the soil, unlike cotton which uses a lot of water and fertiliser and is damaging to the soil.

No. CBD is legal in New Zealand as long as it contains less than 2% THC and is prescribed by a doctor for medicinal use.
CBD stands for cannabidiol and is one of over 100 cannabinoids that occur naturally in cannabis. Cannabis flowers produce a sticky resin that contains these compounds.
CBD is non-psychoactive, non-addictive, natural and well tolerated compared to other pharmaceutical medicine.
CBD oil has a broad range of benefits as humans have CBD receptors throughout the body. Some of the science backed benefits include:
- Pain relief
- Reduces anxiety and depression
- Help with acne
- Prevents heart disease
- Treatment for epilepsy
- Helps with symptoms of cancer treatment
- Relaxes anxious pets
- Could have antipsychotic effects
- Could help with substance abuse treatment
- May have anti-tumour effects
No. CBD is non-psychoactive. It can actually block the effectiveness of THC and helps reduce anxiety.
CBD contains very small amounts of THC that do not make you high. However, if you have a job that requires drug testing get CBD isolate instead of full spectrum CBD oil to be on the safe side. In CBD isolate all the THC is extracted (even when it is in trace amounts).
CBD has very little side effects. Some reported side effects include tiredness, change in appetite and diarrhea. You need to be careful if you take medications that affect your liver or if you have a liver condition. Consult your doctor before taking CBD.
In New Zealand you need to have a prescription from a medical doctor to legally buy CBD and the prescription must be filled by a registered pharmacy in New Zealand. You cannot legally buy CBD oil from overseas online and ship in to New Zealand.
Some doctors are not willing to provide prescriptions for CBD. If you need a prescription get in touch and we can provide you with doctor recommendations.
Generally hemp oil refers to the oil extracted from the hemp seeds in the industrial hemp variety of cannabis. Hemp seed oil is used for nutritional purposes and is high in omega 6 and omega 3 fatty acids but contains only very trace amounts of CBD.
CBD is extracted from the green leaves and buds from the cannabis plant in both the industrial hemp and marijuana varieties of cannabis. This oil contains the medicinal benefits of CBD.
Usually if an oil contains CBD it will be on the label and will usually be more expensive than hemp seed oil. Always check the ingredients label and make sure that the oil you are buying does contain CBD as there are people selling hemp seed oil masquerading as CBD oil for a very high price.
